Fireworks are much more widely used than simply once a year on Bonfire Night. New Year’s Eve and wedding celebrations are two of the other examples where fireworks are widely used. But unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to using them, which have led to an increase in the popularity of
flying lanterns .
One of the biggest problems with fireworks is their cost. They are really very expensive, often prohibitively so for many individuals and couples. As an example, typical municipal fireworks displays on Bonfire Night cost thousands of pounds and whilst you might not be looking for something so extravagant for the evening celebrations of your wedding, you would have to spend a fair amount of money in order to avoid your display turning out to be a flop.
Around Bonfire Night we are reminded in the media of the dangers of fireworks to pets and wild animals. Whilst responsible owners know about these well documented risks, they can only be prepared for them when they are forewarned and expecting them. For this reason, you would need to inform local residents in advance.
Flying lanterns are also known as Chinese lanterns and you may have seen or used them before at once celebration or another: they are increasingly widely used in the UK at weddings and New year celebrations. Compared to fireworks they are much cheaper to buy and yet still offer an impressive display. They float gently off into the night sky without making a sound and therefore do not distress animals. The displays are easily as impressive as firework displays but they are awe-inspiring in a different way.
Modern flying lantern manufacturers use biodegradable paper and a wire free frame, making the lanterns environmentally friendly and harmless to animals even if they are ingested. Do take care when buying to purchase from a responsible retailer and make sure that the lanterns you do buy are entirely wire free.
Perhaps the best quality of flying lanterns as a display at your celebration is that they allow everyone to get safely involved in creating the display, as all adults can safely and easily use them. Furthermore, they can be personalised with decorations, wishes and messages written on them in felt tip pen. Given that traditionally the lanterns are considered to bring good luck to those who release them this is especially relevant at weddings where guests will surely be keen to wish a bright, happy and prosperous future to the newly married couple.
